For years now, Trek’s Madones have set the standard for road cycling excellence, winning everything from local group rides to the Tour de France. The 3 Series continues that hallowed lineage with a frameset that’s crafted from Trek’s light, stiff 300-Series OCLV carbon. An absolute dream to ride, the Madone comes spec’d with Trek’s E2 tapered front end so you can slice through corners with pinpoint precision. And cornering or flying down straight roads, Trek’s H2 geometry offers the ultimate blend of fine handling and top comfort with a slightly higher handlebar position. Plus, the Madone’s choice components offer excellent ride quality, value and reliability, like the 20-speed Shimano drivetrain with SRAM compact crankset for easier climbing and the first-rate Bontrager controls and wheels. The Madone is versatile, too, with discreet rack and fender mounts that let you load up for commuting and off-season training rides!

Comments:
I have now owned this bike for slightly less than 3 months doen 1300 KM and overall I am in love with it. It handles great, it is comfortable and the price is amazing. The only things that really othere me are: the very uncomfortable saddle, which I had to change and the Bontrager R1 tires which don’t give you any flat protection at all. Aside from that it is an amazing bike, I would definetly recommend it but be prepared to do some upgrades.

Thanks to Tom at Redlands Cyclery for fitting me with the best cycle for what I could afford. I purchased my Trek MADONE 3.1 back in August and ride daily. Recently retired I average about 20 miles a day with an occasionally 30+ milers on the weekends. The only change was I exchanged my old seat because the new one was to hard. The ride was confortable and my back pain went away and I increased my daily riding distance. With this new machine I have steadily increased my daily distance and speed. The Madone handles great in turns and up hill speeds. The carbon frame was new to me and it beats my old Raleigh 700 by a long shot.

Upgraded from a Trek 7.5 FX to the Madone 3.1. Love the smooth ride of the carbon bike, and the comfort of the geometry. Look forward to time on the bike, and getting a lot more hours in as a result.

Sold my Trek 7100 Hybrid and bought the Madone. The Hybrid was a great way to “get into” cycling but the Madone takes cycling for me to a new level. I ride 15-25 miles on public roads several times a week, daylight permitting. Shifting is smooth. I also got out of the tennis shoes into real bike shoes with pedal clips. Glad I did. Light and fast. Nearly effortless propulsion compared to the Hybrid. Wow!

Use the bicycle everyday riding 40-50 miles. So far no complaints. The front derailer was out of adjustment and the trek dealer fixed the problem right away. I love the light weight, smoothness in petaling and shifting. The only down side of this bike is there is not enough time to ride!

I bought my Madone 3.1 to replace a carbon-framed bike with similar geometry, at a similar price point. All of the things I was looking to get – minimised flex under heavy climbing loads, more rear wheel traction, and more stability and cornering precision – I got, and the improvement has been so great that it’s been hard to believe. It has a classy, understated appearance, with clean graphics and a mix of well-lacquered metallic and solid paints. I reckon it’ll stand winter well; time well tell. The OE tyres give great traction even on dirty and wet roads, and with the frame geometry aiding ride quality, it definitely has handling characteristics you could trust for an all-season machine. Downsides? Few that couldn’t be easily rectified, bar the lack of any aero (not expected for the money, though it suffers badly in a strong headwind) – but it’s disappointing that it isn’t fitted with a full 105 groupset off-the-shelf. The unbranded brakes need a really, really good squeeze to scrub off speed, and have very little feel, occasionally leading to lock-ups. Worse is the Tiagra front derailleur, which is difficult to fine-tune, inconsistent and sluggish, and really comes unstuck when shifting on choppy roads. Both are unreliable for a performance application, a shame on a model with such racing pedigree. I’ve remedied both problems and my 3.1 can now handle anything that I can throw at it, which is probably the also the case for any cyclist that doesn’t race competitively. I’m very happy and it’s the best impulse purchase I’ve ever made.

I owned a Madone 4.5 four years ago and had some neck issues and switched to an fx. Feeling recovered from the injury i decided to buy the 3.1 and get back into some distance rides. I am totally satisfied with this bike. The new carbon frame is very comfortable. Speed is very similar to the other Madone i owned and the new frame is more rider friendly.

I wanted to get in to cycling, and after months of research (online & friends) I decided to purchase the Trek Madone 3.1. I have riddedn this Madone now for over a month and I’m very pleased with my decision. The Madone is so light and easy to operate at any speed. It is also very easy to clean and maintain. And the carbon frame makes long rides easier. So far I have not found one thing wrong with this Madone and even better, I have not had any excuses not to ride it!

Comments:
Great Bike but it could use 1 or 2 smaller sprockets to help increase speed on some downhills. I found myself pedaling without any resistance a few times. I had to purchase a different rear sprocket set to resolve issue.
